Subject: Join Us for a Weekly Bible Study at Highlands United Methodist Church!

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming weekly Bible Study this fall at Highlands United Methodist Church! Join us on Tuesdays at 11:45 a.m. in Room 204, as we will embark on a meaningful journey through the Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus.

Why Genesis and Exodus?

These books are foundational works of the Judeo-Christian faith, shaping our understanding of God, humanity, and moral principles. They have profoundly influenced countless lives and movements throughout history, including the Civil Rights Movement, as they speak to themes of freedom, justice, and divine promise.

This Fall, we will dive deeply into these sacred texts, enriching our study with insights from contemporary theologians and modern writers. Together, we will explore the historical context, literary elements, and spiritual lessons that continue to resonate today.

Join Us for Lunch!

We encourage you to arrive at 11:45 a.m. to enjoy a delicious meal prepared by PJ, Ali, and the Good to Go crew, available for $12. Please note that lunch reservations are required to ensure we have enough food for everyone.  Suzanne Hoye will collect reservations.

We hope you will join us for this enriching experience as we gather in fellowship and deepen our understanding of these foundational scriptures that still speak to us today.

Acolyte Training

Being an acolyte at Highlands is more than just wearing a robe and carrying a torch or processional cross - it is an act of praise and service to God, and your church family. Acolytes illuminate the Word, direct our attentions toward spiritual matters, and enhance our communal worship experience. This fall, you are invited to join the Acolyte Ministry at Highlands. All you have to do is attend one of our training sessions. Lunch will provided and training takes about an hour. Acolyte training is open to everyone: adults, youth, and children fourth grade and older. All currently trained acolytes are also encouraged to attend a training session.

This is a rare chance to hear from our own Dick L'Eplattenier and other church members about funeral planning and some thoughts regarding estate planning in a low-stress environment. Come join us and bring your questions!

______________________________________________________

This year’s events will be announced soon. Here’s what we did last year!

Youth Weekend, Aug. 2-5!
A weekend so big, three days couldn’t hold it!

Friday, 7-8:30 pm. Patriot Park (in West Homewood)
…and ice cream from Neighbors Ice Cream Shop! Bring a frisbee, a ball, a dog, an adventurous cat, a friend, or maybe just yourself! The ice cream is on us!

Saturday, 10 am to noon, Service Project
Hope Mountain Church, 11215 Hwy 22, Calera, AL 35040. Reach back out if you want to carpool! We will assist the Grace Klein Community in their ongoing fight against food insecurity. We will be unloading a truck, packing food boxes, and putting boxes in cars in a "Drive-Thru Event" for the community.

Saturday, 4-6 pm. Pool Party at the Lowerys’ house!
Bring your towel and an appetite because they are putting out eats! Contact Danny Jones for location information.

Sunday, 9 am. Breakfast at the Original Pancake House
…across the street from the church! Please be prompt so our group may thoroughly enjoy the pancake goodness before we walk back over to morning worship at the church.

Sunday, 5-7 pm. Treasure Hunt and Snack Supper
We meet at the church. Be there or wonder later what people are talking about. This is a highlight.

Monday, 6-8 pm. Vestavia Bowl!
Be ready for alley-slinging, gutter-rolling, ugly shoe-wearing fun. The bowling is on us, but any food (before, during, or after) is on you.

It’s going to be good!   Bring a friend!
